Tomorrow, the California Legislature is expected to pass a 2025-26 budget bill that will take even more from the future than the budget proposed by Governor Newsom. If you want details, see here. Since the pandemic, CA’s spending has grown twice as fast as federal spending. For things to change, GFC and other political philanthropies must support a change-agent for governor and legislators who support that governor’s agenda.
PS: As I’ve written before, San Francisco gives me hope because of persistent political philanthropy there. One organization helping things to happen is ConnectedSF, which organizes and educates citizens, including the most understandable deep dive of a city budget that I’ve ever seen. Every city in CA could do with a similar organization.
