The 2025-26 budget Governor Newsom signed into law last Friday takes a terrible toll on the future by issuing debt and draining reserves to close deficits caused by overspending. Selfish budgets that steal from the future seem to be one thing DEM governments in Sacramento and GOP governments in Washington, D.C. have in common. Neither is an example of the budgetary leadership our state and nation need and deserve.
PS: Two items of good news are that our friends at EdVoice succeeded in their principal legislative objective this year of helping every CA child to become a skilled reader (see EdVoice’s statement here) and Assemblymember Buffy Wicks succeeded in her effort to speed up housing construction (her statement here), in both cases with the critical support of Speaker Robert Rivas. GFC is pleased to have supported EdVoice, Wicks and Rivas.
