State lawmakers in the pockets of government unions have re-submitted AB 1383, which would boost pensions for safety employees without setting aside sufficient funds to meet those promises. That is the same lethal combination that has led to a 10x increase in annual pension spending since 2000. We stopped AB 1383 last year, but we’re tired of being on the defensive. A courageous new governor could change that. If not, perhaps Congress will provide this option.
