Occasionally I get inquiries from donors asking how they should respond to requests for support from other organizations that they worry might duplicate what GFC does. Recently I responded to one such request as follows:
“I think [organization] focuses mostly on housing whereas as you can tell from GFC’s Calls to Action Archive we tend to focus on fiscal issues, government unions and helping education and local organizations to pursue their missions, but whatever [organization] does, so long as they do it well there’s plenty of room — and need! — for several muscular political philanthropies focused on Sacramento.”
I mean it. There’s a lot of ground to cover (the state has 29 legal codes) so there’s room for lots of organizations and if another organization can do what we do better than we do it you should support them. After all, we are not very successful at what we do and even if we were more successful, California needs a lot more firepower trained on our principal opponents, who are SEIU, CTA, CCPOA, AFSCME and other powerful government unions. Let me know of any questions or comments.
