GFC asked you to support several slates. While votes are still being counted, most races can be called.
GFC SF Schools Chapter Slate: All recommended candidates won.
GFC SF Chapter Slate: All recommended candidates won, with one exception (Yekutiel withdrew).
GFC East Bay Chapter Slate: All recommended candidates are in the lead.
GFC State Legislature Slate: Eric Lucan lost, Brian Goldsmith won, and David Peneloza’s race is not decided.
GFC Statewide Office Slate: The one statewide candidate we recommended (Ben Allen for Insurance Commissioner) lost.
Separately, I recommended these votes on state ballot measures. While voters turned down Prop 40 (SEIU-UHW’s wealth tax), they approved all the spending measures I opposed and it’s too soon to tell if Prop 42 (restrictions on wealth taxes) will pass.
Overall I am very pessimistic about the state’s fiscal future. The new governor is not known for spending restraint, both houses have spending-oriented super-majorities heavily influenced by the healthcare and government employee industries that capture the lion’s share of state spending, and despite an enormous increase in spending over the last eight years that has produced little of value, all of them are already talking about new tax increases.
